In anticipation of knowing we were going to be moving close to 6 hours farther from my Grandpa Schauer, I decided it was time to take my kids to see their Great Grandpa and get some quality bonding time in. I grew up in Ohio, way up north by Lake Erie, I left for college when I was 18 and have never lived there again. It's not that I don't like Ohio, its just that I don't particular feel anything drawing me to it. I have wonderful friends and family that live there and to them I say...Come visit me!!! Ha! I do make it there a time or two a year and this was one of those times.
I called my Aunt Laurie and asked if she wanted to make a girl's weekend out of it. Of course, she was all in and the plans were made. My Aunt Laurie and Uncle Dave have a rather new addition to their family, a sweet 7 year old girl named Caylie. Caylie and Ellie are inseparable when together. They act silly and want to do everything the other is doing. It is so cute. The weekend was fun and laid back just as I was hoping. Grandpa looked good, but he is getting old. The kids were great with him. I'm always a little bit nervous that they'll shy up around him, but they ran and gave "Great Papa" hugs. We met him and Betty (the closest woman I have in my life as a Grandma) for dinner, the kids swam, made Walmart runs, the kids swam, we went out to dinner with more of my family, Aunt Pat, Uncle Mike, cousin Christine and her daughter, Emily. We met my best friend from high school, Kristan for lunch. It was so nice getting to catch up. She looked great. The kids swam some more.... Oh yeah and pigged out on junk food! Overall, it was a fantastic weekend. Everyone was so well behaved, it was nice seeing Grandpa and family. Aunt Laurie and I caught up and had a ball. I'm so blessed.
