A visit from Mom and Dad

I'm one of those people who didn't truly appreciate their parents until I was an adult. Now, I think my parents are wonderful. When I was growing up, while I feel we had a decent relationship, I thought (and still do) they were WAY TOO OVERPROTECTIVE!!!! Okay, point made. I was the kid that always had to be home first. My curfew was ALWAYS 11pm. So, whichever of my friends was driving when we went out had to stop our plans at 10:30 so I could make it home by curfew. They needed to know every single detail and if they didn't like the thought or idea of something...I often felt, instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt, they didn't allow me to do it. As I look back at my middle school and high school years, I have mostly fond memories, so obviously they weren't all wrong. I turned out to be a good person and I think that has to do a lot with my parents.

They came to visit this weekend. They wanted to get one more visit in at this house before we moved away. My parents are so helpful and great. We went out to dinner Thursday night, they watched the kids all day Friday, we went shopping all day Saturday and went to church together Sunday before they left.

My kids adore their grandparents. Hayden has started the "No, I love you!!!" game now, every time someone tells him that they love him. Ellie had someone new to show all of her gymnastics moves to. They may have acted a bit crazy at times (my kids, not my parents) but had so much fun playing, loving on, and goofing around with their Grandma and Grandpa.

The moments that stick out the most from this weekend would include when we were at the outlet malls, I just bought a new Coach purse (It was 30% off of already reduced prices!!) and my dad stole my phone, sent an email to my husband and tattled on me!! Seriously!!! He blew it off as some sort of "man code". Thanks Dad!! Another moment, I lost my cool and screamed at Ellie. She had just completely disobeyed something I had told her. She ran into a room I was in, stomped on my foot (accidentally), and I was upset. The moment my voice was raised, in the back of my head the whole time I was thinking... mom and dad are downstairs and can hear everything!! The house was so quiet you could hear a pin drop, other than my yelling of course. It was rather humbling, but they were completely understanding. LOL. SO EMBARRASSING!!!

My parents are great. They have set such a wonderful Christian example for me. They've been married for 42 years this June!!! I'm so lucky to have parents that I love and respect. The Lord has certainly blessed me by giving them to me.
